Short Term Teams2021-02-22T02:04:15+00:00

For these trips, you gather a team of 10-15 team members from your church, school, or organization and then partner with us to serve in Uganda.

Open Short Term Teams2021-02-22T02:04:35+00:00

If you are interested in coming on mission, but do not have a team of your own, you can sign up for one of our open teams.

Size of Teams2021-02-22T02:04:43+00:00

Teams of 10-15 are a great size for a team. Teams can split up into two smaller groups if desired to work in different areas. We can possibly go up to 20 in a group, but this would have to be approved beforehand. Our hope is that your group will have similar ages, job skills and activity levels. This will help make the team more productive.

Lengths of Stay2021-02-22T02:04:56+00:00

Short Term Teams generally stay anywhere from 10-15 days, which includes travel. 10 is the minimum. Depending on your flight you typically lose about a day coming. You may also need a rest period for jet lag.

Time of Year2021-02-22T02:05:07+00:00

Any time of year is a great time of year to take a trip to Uganda. The weather in the Kisoro District during the day is in the mid 70’s and a night it drops down into the mid 40’s. During rainy season it does sometimes drop to the upper 30’s. The temperatures are lower in this part of Uganda because we are located at higher elevations. Airfare varies greatly throughout the year, however. Generally March/April and Sept/Oct are the cheapest times to travel. Winter is the second cheapest, and summer is the most expensive time to travel. Your specific airfare will depend on the airport you fly out of, the carrier you use, and the flight pattern you choose, but generally it will range between $1100 and $2,000. You will fly into Kigali, Rwanda. You will have to apply for an East African Visa which will allow you to cross over the boarder into Uganda. You can book this, or we can book your tickets for you for a truly all inclusive trip cost.

Estimated Cost2021-02-22T02:05:16+00:00

Cost will vary based on what type of team you bring. For instance, if its a medical team, the project supplies may be more expensive. Running a full children’s camp will be more expensive than a light construction trip. In general, though, all in-country expenses generally run at $1500 US dollars per person plus project expenses. This is inclusive of all in country expenses. It does NOT include airfare, your East African Visa fee to enter the country ($100) and any pre-trip vaccinations you choose to get. An exact per person cost will be given to you when you complete the preliminary booking form for your trip.

Can I send letters and pictures to my child?2021-02-22T01:55:03+00:00

Absolutely! We want you to keep in touch with your sponsored child and encourage them. Once you sponsor a child you will have access to our sponsor portal where you will be able to not only send pictures and letters, but you will also receive updates and letters from your child. Your letters and photos to your sponsored child will be printed off and hand delivered to your child.

You can also send letters to our USA location:

Hope Ministries Uganda USA
1345 Shirebourn,
Hickory, NC 28602

or email them to us: rise@hopeministryuganda.org

Can I send gifts to my child?2021-02-22T01:54:57+00:00

We encourage our sponsors to send letters and pictures to their sponsored child. For birthdays and Christmas we encourage sponsors to give financial gifts that can be used to purchase gifts in Uganda. Our goal is to keep communication open and to make sure you see and experience how your child was able to celebrate through our sponsorship portal.

Can I visit my sponsored child?2021-04-27T04:13:26+00:00

Yes! We love for sponsors to meet their sponsored child. You can join an upcoming mission team or arrange a team yourself to come and see! We love to call these trips Discovery Trips. For the sponsored child to meet their sponsor it is a life changing event and encourages them so much!

How long does a child stay in the sponsorship program?2021-02-22T01:54:42+00:00

Most of our children come into our program between the ages of 3-16 years of age. Typically secondary school in Uganda ends around the age of 20-21. Many of our children had a very late start in receiving their education and they are working towards “catching up”. Some of our older children will be phased into our vocational training program to give them skills to start businesses and business training so that they will be able to support themselves.

How Long does Sponsorship Last?2021-02-22T01:54:36+00:00

Our hope and prayer is that sponsors will stay with a child through secondary school (high school) or vocational training school. There may be opportunities for some of our students to attend university level in the future.

What Does Sponsorship Cover?2021-02-22T01:54:29+00:00

Our sponsorship program covers the child’s education at our Seeds of Hope School, provides three meals a day, and provides basic healthcare through our River of Life Medical Clinic.
